How to use the Audio Volume Booster
- Drop an audio file into the box, or click choose a file.
- Drag Volume up, or click Twice as loud. Or tick Normalize.
- Keep Prevent distortion ticked so loud parts don't crackle.
- Listen to the result, then click Download.
How much louder?
Volume is measured in decibels (dB). +6 dB roughly doubles the signal level and sounds clearly louder; +10 dB sounds about twice as loud to most people. Boosting a lot also raises background hiss, so use only as much as you need.
Normalize vs boost
Normalize finds the loudest moment in the file and raises everything until that moment just reaches the maximum. It never distorts, but a single loud bang can stop it from getting much louder. Boost raises everything by the amount you choose, and the soft limiter gently rounds off any peaks that would go over the top instead of letting them crackle.
Frequently asked questions
Will boosting cause distortion?
Not with Prevent distortion ticked. Peaks are rounded off smoothly. Very large boosts can still sound squashed.
Can I make a video louder?
You can make the sound from a video louder and download it as audio. The video itself isn't changed.
