How to use the Online Screen Recorder
- Choose what to include: Sound from the tab or screen, My microphone, or both.
- Click ● Start recording, then pick a tab, a window or your entire screen in the browser's sharing window.
- After the countdown, do what you want to record. Use Pause for breaks.
- Click ■ Stop (or the browser's Stop sharing button). Play the recording back, then click Download.
Recording sound
- Sound from a tab (a video, a meeting in the browser): choose Chrome tab in the sharing window and tick Also share tab audio. Works in Chrome and Edge.
- Sound from your whole computer: share your entire screen and tick Also share system audio. This works in Chrome and Edge on Windows and ChromeOS. Macs only allow tab sound.
- Your voice: tick My microphone. It's mixed with the screen sound into one track.
Video format
Recordings are saved as MP4 in browsers that support it (recent Chrome, Edge and Safari) and as WebM in Firefox. Both play in modern browsers and VLC, and upload to YouTube and Google Drive. For a quick tutorial or bug report, a few minutes of screen video is usually 20–100 MB.
On a phone?
Phone browsers can't record the screen, but phones have a recorder built in. On iPhone, add Screen Recording to Control Center. On Android, swipe down and tap Screen record.
Private by design
The recording is made by your browser and kept in this tab until you download it. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no watermark or time limit.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a time limit?
No. Long recordings use more memory, so for hour-long sessions close other heavy apps and tabs.
Why is there no sound?
Sound only comes from a browser tab (with Also share tab audio ticked) or, on Windows and ChromeOS, from the entire screen. Firefox and Safari don't share sound.
Does it add a watermark?
No. The video is exactly what was on your screen.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. It stays in your browser until you download it.
