How to use the MP3 Cutter
- Drop an audio file into the box, or click choose a file. MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and FLAC all work, and so does the sound from a video.
- Drag the orange handles to choose the part to keep, or type the start and end times.
- Click Play selection (or press Space) to check it. Tick Fade in or Fade out for smooth edges.
- To delete a section instead, set Keep to Everything except the selection.
- Click Cut and download.
Tips for a clean cut
- Start on a beat: play the selection a few times and nudge the start handle until it begins exactly where you want.
- Fades stop the clip starting or ending with a click, and make ringtones and alarms gentler.
- Removing a section: when you choose Everything except the selection, Play lets you hear the join, and the two parts are blended over 10 milliseconds so there's no click.
- Type exact times like
1:05.5into Start and End.
Make a ringtone
Pick your favourite 30 seconds and download it as an MP3. Android phones can use MP3 ringtones directly. The ringtone maker starts with a 30-second selection and fades already on.
Private by design
The audio is cut in your browser and never uploaded. MP3s are made with LAME, the open-source MP3 encoder, through the lamejs library.
Frequently asked questions
Does cutting reduce the quality?
MP3s are re-encoded when you save. At 192 kbps or 320 kbps you won't hear a difference. Choose WAV for no loss at all.
Can I cut the audio from a video?
Yes. Drop in an MP4 or other video and only the sound is loaded.
How do I remove a part from the middle?
Select that part, then set Keep to Everything except the selection.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
