How to use the Excel to CSV Converter
- Drop an .xlsx file onto the box, or click it to choose one.
- Pick the Sheet, or All sheets to download a ZIP with one CSV per sheet.
- Choose the Delimiter. Keep Excel-friendly UTF-8 on if the CSV will be opened in Excel again.
- Click Download .csv, or Copy the text.
Comma, semicolon or tab?
- Comma is the standard and what most apps and databases expect.
- Semicolon is what Excel uses in countries where the comma is the decimal separator (much of Europe and Latin America).
- Tab (a .tsv file) is safest when your text itself contains commas and semicolons.
What “Excel-friendly UTF-8” means
CSV files don't say which character encoding they use. Adding an invisible marker (a byte order mark) at the start tells Excel the file is UTF-8, so café and กรุงเทพ appear correctly when you double-click it. Untick it for programs that don't expect the marker.
Private and offline
The workbook is read in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Old .xls files need to be saved as .xlsx first. Need the opposite? Use CSV to Excel.
