How to use the Passport Size Photo Maker
- Choose the photo size, such as India 35 × 45 mm or US 2 × 2 in.
- Drop in your photo. Drag to move it, and scroll, pinch or use Zoom to resize.
- Line up the top of the head and the chin with the blue guide lines, and centre the face on the grey line.
- For an online form, set a Max file size if there's a limit, then click Download photo.
- To print, choose your paper and click Download print sheet. Print it at 100% (actual size).

Rules change, and some offices are stricter than others. Always check the official requirements for your application. Canada only accepts photos taken and printed by a professional photographer, with their stamp on the back, so a home-made photo won't do for a Canadian passport.
How to take a good passport photo at home
- Background: stand in front of a plain white or off-white wall, with no patterns or shadows.
- Light: face a window or use soft, even light so there are no shadows on your face or behind you.
- Camera: ask someone to take it from about 1.2 m (4 ft) away at eye level. Selfies distort the face.
- Pose: look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and eyes open.
- Glasses and hats: take them off. The US doesn't allow glasses at all, and most countries prefer none.
Online forms and printing
Online applications often limit the file size, for example to 100 KB or 240 KB. Type the limit into Max file size and the photo is saved at the best quality that fits. If a form asks for exact pixels, such as 600 × 600, choose Exact pixels.
For printed photos, the print sheet fits as many copies as possible on 4 × 6 in photo paper, A4 or Letter, with thin cut lines. Print the PDF at 100% or actual size. "Fit to page" changes the size. A 4 × 6 print at a photo shop costs very little, and you can cut the photos out yourself.
