How to use the Meme Generator
- Drop an image here, paste one (Ctrl+V), or choose a file. Or start from a plain background.
- Type the top and bottom text. Click + Add text for more captions.
- Drag captions to move them, and change the size, color and outline.
- Click Download to save it as a JPG or PNG.
The classic meme look
Classic image macros use bold, condensed capital letters in white with a thick black outline, so the text is readable on any picture. This generator uses Anton, a free open-source font close to the original Impact.
Meme tips
- Keep it short: the best memes have fewer than ten words per line.
- Set up the joke at the top and deliver it at the bottom.
- Use Caption above for screenshots and photos where text over the picture would hide something.
About pictures you use
Memes usually reuse photos and film stills. Your own photos are safest; for anything you post publicly or use in advertising, make sure you're allowed to use the image.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a watermark?
No. Your meme is downloaded exactly as you made it.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything is drawn in your browser, so the picture never leaves your device.
Can I make a GIF meme?
Not yet: animated images are turned into a still of the first frame.
What font do memes use?
Traditionally Impact. This tool uses Anton, a similar free font, so your memes look the same on every device.
