How to use the Online Notepad
- Start typing. The note saves itself in this browser a moment after you stop.
- Click + New note to start another. Your notes are listed on the left, newest first, and named after their first line.
- Change the font, text size and line wrapping in the toolbar.
- Click Download .txt to keep a copy, or Download all notes for a zip. Open .txt loads a text file as a new note.
Where are my notes saved?
In your browser's local storage, on this device only. They're never uploaded, so nobody else can read them, and they work offline. That also means:
- Notes don't sync to your other devices or browsers.
- Clearing your browsing data or using a private window deletes them.
- Anyone using this browser profile can open this page and see them.
For anything important, click Download .txt now and then, or download all notes as a zip.
Good uses
- Drafting a message or post before pasting it somewhere else.
- Cleaning text: pasting into a plain notepad removes fonts and formatting.
- Meeting notes, to-do lists and quick calculations you'll need again later today.
- On a shared or work computer where you can't install an app (just remember the notes stay in that browser).
Need to count words or change case? Paste your note into the word counter or the case converter.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really saved automatically?
Yes, a moment after you stop typing, and again when you leave the page. The note under the box says Saved in this browser.
Can I open my notes on another device?
No. They stay in the browser where you wrote them. Download a .txt file to move a note.
How much can I store?
Browsers usually allow about 5 MB for a site, which is millions of characters. You'll see a warning if it's full.
Are my notes private?
They're never sent anywhere. But anyone who uses this browser can open this page, so don't keep passwords here.
