How to use the Online Voice Recorder
- Click the red button and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Speak. Watch the meter and the moving waveform to check your level. Press Pause for breaks.
- Press โ Stop. The recording appears below, ready to play back.
- Rename it if you like, choose MP3 or WAV, and click Download.
Tips for a clear recording
- Distance: keep the microphone about a hand's width (10โ20 cm) from your mouth, slightly to the side to avoid pops.
- Level: aim for the meter to reach the yellow when you speak normally. If it hits red, move back a little.
- Room: soft furnishings like curtains, sofas and carpets cut echo. Bathrooms and empty rooms sound boomy.
- Background noise: keep Reduce background noise ticked for speech. Untick it for music, so instruments aren't treated as noise.
Which format?
MP3 plays everywhere and is small: about 1 MB per minute. WAV is uncompressed, best for editing, about 5 MB per minute. Original saves exactly what your browser recorded (WebM or M4A depending on the browser), which is the quickest. Need to trim the start or end? Use the MP3 cutter.
Private by design
Your recordings are kept in this browser tab only and never leave your device. Download them before closing the page, because they're gone once it's closed. MP3s are made with LAME, the open-source MP3 encoder, through the lamejs library.
