How to use the Ringtone Maker
- Drop a song into the box, or click choose a file.
- Drag the selection to the part you want, usually the chorus. Keep it around 30 seconds.
- Click Play selection to check it. The fades are already on.
- Click Cut and download, then copy the MP3 to your phone.
Setting the ringtone on Android
- Copy the MP3 to your phone, for example from Downloads or with a USB cable into the Ringtones folder.
- Open Settings → Sound → Phone ringtone, or open the file in a file manager and choose Set as ringtone. Menu names vary a little between brands.
iPhone
iPhones only use ringtones in their own M4R format, up to 40 seconds long, added through GarageBand on the phone or through a computer. Make your clip here as an MP3, then import it into GarageBand and use Share → Ringtone.
Tips
- Start right on the first beat of the chorus, so the ringtone grabs attention straight away.
- 20 to 30 seconds is plenty. Most calls are answered or go to voicemail before that.
