How to use the Cumulative GPA Calculator
- Enter this term's courses, credits and grades in the table.
- Scroll to Cumulative GPA and enter your current GPA and the credits you've completed.
- Read your new cumulative GPA. Change grades to see how each one affects it.
The cumulative GPA formula
New cumulative GPA = (current GPA × credits completed + this term's grade points) ÷ (credits completed + this term's credits).
Example: a 3.20 GPA over 45 credits, plus a 15-credit term with a 3.60 GPA (54 grade points): (3.20 × 45 + 54) ÷ 60 = 3.30.
Why it moves slowly
The more credits you've completed, the less one term can change your overall GPA. In your first year a great term can lift it a lot; in your final year, the same term moves it only a little. Plan early if you're aiming for a GPA cutoff.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my credits completed?
On your transcript or student portal, usually as “credits earned” or “GPA hours”. Use the credits your GPA is based on, which can differ from total credits if you took pass/fail courses.
Can I average my semester GPAs instead?
Only if every semester had the same number of credits. Otherwise use credits, as this calculator does.
